Our Story
A simple dream became a mission
Doctors on the Road International began with a simple dream. As Dr. Chang B. Shin approached retirement after decades of caring for patients, he knew he did not simply want to stop being a doctor. He wanted to become a “doctor on the road” — free to go wherever people needed him and use his experience to serve.
After participating in medical missions in the Philippines, Kenya, and Paraguay, that dream became a mission. DOTRI was created to continue that journey and bring healthcare professionals, volunteers, and communities together in service.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple: To bring compassionate medical care and health education to underserved communities, both in the United States and around the world.
We work alongside local healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, and community partners whenever possible. We believe meaningful change begins by showing up, listening, and caring for the person in front of us.
What We Do

We provide practical health education to help individuals and communities improve their well-being.

We welcome physicians, dentists, acupuncturists, nurses, allied-health professionals, and other volunteers who share a heart for service.
Mission Support
When resources allow, DOTRI helps provide medical supplies, equipment, and mission-related support where they are most needed.

DonateDoctors on the Road International (DOTRI) is a Washington State nonprofit corporation and is currently applying for recognition as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Our federal 501(c)(3) application is currently in process. Tax-deductibility of contributions is subject to IRS determination.
